Hafa adai and welcome back ongoing students! To the new students, welcome to NMC!

It has been a while since the blog has been updated. After a few months hiatus, a lot of important events has happened. From the introduction of our new president, Dr. Sharon Y. Hart, but also our institution has reached a new low with a budget cut that hurts the college. However, with our new president, Dr. Hart is doing what she can to bring in more funding to sustain our institution.

Anyways, this is the ENRO Club blog, which serves as a site that you NRM and Club ENRO members can visit to update yourself on upcoming meetings or events. Since this is a new semester, please look out for when our first meeting will start.

I.                    Meeting Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Sharisse, The meeting began at 1:10 p.m. and ended at 2:15 p.m.

II.                 High School Outreach – Tom got confirmation from Kagman High School for Club ENRO to do an outreach to their students. However, there are 3 periods from which we can choose to do the outreach. We agreed to conduct the outreach around (10:00 am – 11:15 am). Here are the details:

·        DATE: May 19, 2011 (Thursday)

·        SCHOOL: Kagman High School

·        Proposed times:

·        8:30 am – 9:45 am

·        10:00 am – 11:15 am (Jan, Tom, Charlie, Leeroy, Jess)

·        11:25 am – 12:45 pm

·        A power point will be prepared for the outreach.

* Here are some of the proposed items that will be brought to Kagman High School to be given to the Senior class:

• NRM Folder
• NRM Degree Program Brochure
• IDP (Individual Degree Plan) for NRM
• ENRO Member Registration
• NMC Enrollment Forms (Admission, etc.)
• Internship Information

* NOTICE: Keep in mind that there will be a rehearsal for the outreach on MAY 18, 2011 (Wednesday)

III.               ENRO Garden (Updated) –We discussed at the meeting that there will still be an effort to get the garden up and running on May 17, 2011 (Tuesday). As proposed by Jess, we will do block gardening where there will be plots of crops or ornamental plants you would like to plant. Here’s a diagram of it.

• (UPDATED) We might have interviews with the members discussing about Club ENRO. Come by the ENRO Garden! Time will be from 9:00 am - ?

IV.              Internships – A big reminder to all interested students that will be an intern here on-island and off-island, please check Dr. De Torres to pick up your NRM Internship packet for your mentor or advisor to fill out in order to get credit for the NRM Internship course for FALL semester (even though you’re taking the internship in the Summer). Here are the details:

• Internship Packet
• (Evaluation forms for your mentor to fill out and sign, please this is very important in order to get credit for NRM Internship!!)

• PowerPoint Presentation
• (Prepare a presentation to bring back after your internship is done.)

V.                 Club ENRO Photo w/ New Banner – Thank you all for taking the time to show up to take a group photo!! Let’s promote Club ENRO and create a legacy that will last. We appreciate it!! Job well done!!

VI.              Graduating Students – Fellow ENRO members, let’s congratulate Jan Reyes on his upcoming Graduation this May! He’ll be the first NRM graduate in a long time. CONGRATS JAN!!

·        In addition, for those who are potential graduates next SPRING semester, please notify me, Jan and Sharisse on the classes you might need to take in FALL! You need 10 students to prevent cancellation of a class!!

VII.            Other Opportunities – Dr. De Torres mentioned that for those thinking of pursuing a B.A. in Natural Resource Management or a related field, there are online degrees being offered for those interested. Here are the details:

·        Oregon State University?? (Not sure on what institution.)

o       Flat-rate fee.

o       No out of state fees.

o       Online courses offered.

VIII.         ENRO CLUB SHIRT - We would like to thank Jan and Sharisse for all their hard work done on the banner and shirts. As for the shirts, please give it some time to get the P.O. processed (takes 10 days), and an additional week and some days for the shirts to be done. I took down the sizes and names for the members.

April 29^th, 2010

I.                    Meeting Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by Sharisse. The meeting began at 1:03 p.m. and ended at 2:15 p.m. * I apologize for hardly sending the previous Minutes of Meeting. Been occupied with work. However, I’m sending you it now. (ROB)

II.                 FALL 2011 Classes – An important note, a class is required to have a minimum of 10 students to keep the class from being cancelled. We want to get a projected number of students that may be taking NRM classes in the FALL. Here are the classes and the projected number of students that will take the class:

1)      Intro to NRM

2)      Environmental Conservation

3)      Species & Ecosystem Management

4)      NRM Seminar

·        So if there are any other students that you know that need the classes, please let Dr. De Torres know or e-mail me, Jan and Sharisse to let us know. You need 10 students to prevent a class from being cancelled!!

III.               ENRO Garden – Our garden is slowly but surely getting there. We discussed in the meeting that there will be an effort to get the garden up and running on May 17, 2011. • If interested, we are launching this project for MAY 17, 2011 @ 9:00 A.M. at ENRO Garden. Please join in, and if you want to bring something feel free. However, don’t bring trees or seedlings that can grow into trees. 

IV.              High School Outreach – One good idea suggested by Sharisse was to do outreach efforts in educating High School students about NRM Program at NMC. It will be a good push to recruit new potential NRM majors. The target group is high school students. The following volunteered to ask the following high schools if we can at least present to Environmental Science classes to promote the NRM program:

·        Tom – Kagman High School

·        LeeRoy – Marianas High School; Saipan Southern High School

·        In addition, we might meet up with Mark Flores to find out how we can get at least some folders and various brochures to give out to the high schools to inform them more about the degree program and what Club ENRO does.

VI.             Electing New ENRO Officers – Well, Spring 2011 is coming to a close. We are trying to get more members to come to meetings so that we can vote for new officers. It is a difficult time now with Exams coming up in the following weeks ahead. Elections will be put on hold till FALL 11'

VII.         Club ENRO Photo w/ New Banner – Please come to the Club ENRO photo taking next Wednesday (5/04/2011) @ 9:00 a.m. We would like to have more members in the photo. We will let you know where on campus to meet up for the photo.

VIII.         Club ENRO Commercial – Put on hold till we can get some photos on things we’ve done, it wouldn’t hurt to promote our club by having a commercial. Sharisse pointed out that like UOG Green did a commercial on what they do by helping the environment, we should have one for Club ENRO. More will be discussed in FALL 2011.

Welcome to the blog spot for Club ENRO (Environmental & Natural Resource Organization) which is a student club organized to promote awareness on the importance of the environment, providing outreach to students, and helping the environment by doing beach cleanups, recycling, and tree planting. In addition, Club ENRO aims to make a difference by doing what we can as students to protect biodiversity, improving healthier lifestyles, and minimizing our impact as humans on the environment to name a few. Whether you are a student or person interested in helping the environment, Club ENRO is open to those who care about nature, and the well-being of humanity.
